Week 32
3.3.24
Over the last several months I’ve been thinking a lot about my identity now that I’m a mom (surprisingly, I haven’t quite figured it out 18 months in). Maybe other new-ish moms can relate. I feel like the same person in some ways, but also different. To be expected, right? It’s interesting though - the things I expected to change, did (sleep, our daily routines, the relationship with my husband) but other, more unexpected things have also changed (my interests, how I want to spend my free time, how I’m showing up socially). I still enjoy a lot of the same things I did pre-babe, but others just hit different. I learned of a new term a few weeks ago and it really helped codify a lot of what I’ve been feeling: matrescence. As the article states, matrescence is "...the developmental process of becoming a mother... a time of transition in nearly every facet of a woman’s life. It changes her physically, hormonally, psychologically, socially, even politically and spiritually." And apparently it can last for years - whoa. If you're like me, you may be wondering why no one told you about this. While I was initially puzzled about what I was experiencing (seriously, why do I feel so socially awkward?!), now I know this is part of the motherhood experience and I'm choosing to see it as an opportunity to rediscover myself in a new phase of life. It's a little scary and empowering all at the same time. If any of this resonates with you, the HuffPost article is worth a read.
Also, there are a lot of new faces here this week - hello and welcome! You can read more about why I started The Weekly here and you can also follow along on Instagram. I'm always interested in hearing your thoughts and feedback (what's resonating? What do you want more or less of?) in the comments or via DM. As always, thank you for being here!
In other news, here's what caught my eye this week:
A super cute cardigan for spring.
Easter is right around the corner and I'm starting to gather ideas for our son's Easter basket. Here's what I have so far: swim trunks, a silicone watering can, and these cute name crayons.
The quick and easy sheet pan dinner I made mid-week (great for leftovers too!).
Inspired by this post to make more fun plans with girlfriends.
Intrigued by this non-perfume perfume.
The high-protein snack I discovered at Trader Joe's this week.
A dreamy interior design account.
An IKEA basket that looks more expensive than it is.
And the loveliest bright orange tulips, courtesy of the Contessa herself.

Thank you for sharing the article about matrescense! It’s not a term I’m familiar with but certainly describes how I feel since becoming a mom almost 3 years ago. I love that you are looking at it as rediscovery!
Thanks for the shoutout! Time with girlfriends is the best. Also, as one half of us is also a new mom, can attest to how good it feels to take a night for yourself with the ladies!
